Regulations to be aware of.

 

Drinking & Driving: If you or anyone in your group has been charged with drinking and driving in the USA, you will not be allowed into Canada because it's a criminal offense in Canada. You must apply for a pardon in your state and then bring the documentation with you.

Drinking & Driving: The legal limit for alcohol is .08 mg. That is what a 200 pound man would be if he drank 4 Canadian 5% beers in 2 hours. It's not very much. It is illegal to drink or have an open bottle in your car or in a boat unless the boat is anchored for the night and there is a washroom facility on board. Drinking age in Ontario is 19.

Boat License:

CANADIANS ONLY - Everyone born after 1975 must take the Boat Operators Exam to operate any motorized water-craft. For everyone else, you need to take the exam for any motorized watercraft 14 feet or shorter. For watercraft longer then 14 feet, the exam has to be taken before September 15 / 2009.

AMERICANS only have to take the exam if in Canada for more then 40 days.

Life Jackets: Seat cushions can not be used as life preservers. Only an American or Canadian Coast Guard approved life jacket is to be used.

Equipment: By law, All boats need the following - anchor, bailing tin, 2 paddles, 50 foot rope with floatation device attached, whistle, fire extinguisher for internal gas tanks and a waterproof flashlight. An air horn or non-projectile signal flare are also good to have.

Fish Limits: The limit for Walleye is 4. This means in your frying pan, at the dock, in the freezer. If you put 4 Walleyes in the freezer and then go out and catch 3 more for lunch, you are over the limit and can be charges $150 per fish over the limit.

Take Home Fish: If you are from the U.S.A. and you want to bring fish home, you must leave a 1 inch or bigger strip of skin on the fish so that the fish species can be identified.
